Dr. Zhu received her B.S. degree in biological science from Fudan University in 2008 with the highest honor (i.e., Presidential Prize). Dr. Zhu was actively involved in research in college and received the Top Prize at the 10th National Competition of Chinese College Students’ Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Achievements. During her study at The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Zhu has received M.S. in Statistics and Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Q : What kind of teaching and mentoring experiences do you have?

A : I have been actively involved in teaching and mentoring activities since college. I was one of the three undergraduate students who was selected as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses during my senior year at Fudan University. I continued to serve as a teaching assistant for cumulatively >600 undergraduate students during my PhD study. Acknowledged by the undergraduate students I have worked with, I was nominated and selected as a Graduate Mentor for one of the Kuhn Family Intellectual Entrepreneurship Awardees at the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, and won a scholarship to attend a national conference in Nutritional Sciences.

Q : Why do you choose to work with us?

A : I want to share my special and successful experience in multi-major (Biological Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, Statistics, and Epidemiology) application and help those students who would like to make transitions and explore new journeys/majors. Also, I would like to share my own experience and lessons with those who are interested in obtaining dual degrees. I consider mentees' growth and improvement as one of the most rewarding points of this job.

Q : Tell me something about yourself as a mentor.

A : I consider myself as a supportive, patient, well organized, detail- and goal-oriented person. I like to make a thorough plan with a clear timeline at the beginning of each project. I often tell my students: set a goal, make a plan, get to work, stick to it, and REACH GOAL.
