  有问必答

Q : You turned down Harvard and Stanford to attend Caltech. Why did you make that decision?

A : It cannot be denied that Harvard and Stanford ranks higher on the list than Caltech. However, I prefer dense academic atmosphere here. Faculty members at Caltech enjoy exceptional visibility, have dynamic research programs and play leadership roles in the academic community. The research is highly interdisciplinary and often conducted in a collaborative atmosphere. The aim of the PhD program in mechanical engineering at Caltech is to prepare students for research and professional practice in an era of rapidly advancing interdisciplinary technology. The program combines individual depth of experience and competence in a particular chosen major specialty, with a strong background in the basic and engineering sciences. It strives to develop professional independence, creativity, leadership, and the capacity for continuing professional and intellectual growth. It is just what I need. Of course, Caltech offered me a full scholarship to my doctoral degree program. I gladly accepted. Based on these, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer Caltech.

Q : Three things you loved about Caltech.

A : Its challenging academic experiences. The amazing faculty members I had the opportunity to work with. The Charles Gates Center for Mechanical Engineering which provides infrastructure and support for research and education in Mechanical Engineering.
