  有问必答

Q : What capabilities should our applicants show to admission officers so they can stand out from so many competitors?

A : 1) Outstanding academic performance: You are going to study in a university, so of course the admission officer will look at your academic performance; however, most Chinese students have good grades, so we need to have more. 2) Relevant work experience from a multinational company: the duration of graduate study is usually short, so they would prefer candidates who have prior work experience; high employment rate will improve the university ranking. Also, let me reiterate the importance of relevancy. They would like to see how your prior work or internship experience helps you decide which program you apply for and how the experience helps you achieve your career goal. 3) You are different: it sounds cliché, but being able to differentiate yourself with some extra-curricular activities would be great. That helps them to remember you. If you have interesting volunteer experience to share with admission officer, do write it on your resume and personal statement. 4) Communication skills: Sounds cliché again, but universities in the US and HK will most likely give you an interview. Fluency in English and being logical will be a big plus. I can help you on that btw.

Q : What do you learn from so many internships and how do these experiences help you in seeking for a job in the USA before graduation?

A : The way you look for a job in the US is drastically different from that in China. You have to get out of your comfort zone and reach out to as many people as possible to get an internship or a full time job. It is difficult, but doable. You cannot imagine how many times I cried when alone because I couldn't get an internship. However, I didn't give up. I didn't get anything until this year in June, when most of my classmates have already given up or even not started looking for a job yet. This process took me 8 months. My efforts eventually get paid off with 5 internship offers. Once again, it is not easy especially for international students to find a job because we need sponsorship, but as long as you keep working on it, you will get there. I worked as a non-paid intern for 8 months in the US at the beginning, and that helped me a lot because I got more comfortable talking to clients and the employers won't worry much about my English given that I am employed. Most importantly, I have stories to tell during the interviews.

Q : How can you help our applicants who are about to apply for a postgraduate program in Accounting?

A : 1) Walk you through the entire application process and plan ahead. I applied for master programs in Accounting or Finance 2 years ago on my own and got offers from all the universities I applied for. 2) Personal Statement Guidance: I have been helping students writing their personal statements for over one year. 3) Interview Guidance: I have taken over 50 interviews in the US within one year and can help you with the interview preparation for either job search or school application. I also can give you mock interviews. 4) Career Advice: I have work experience in both US and China. I worked in venture capital, M&A, and public accounting as well. Don't take exams for CPA or CFA blindly. I know Chinese students like that. We can figure out what works best for you. 5) Job search advice: If you don't know how to write networking emails, how to look for a job in the US, what questions to ask during the networking meetings or phone conversations, I can offer suggestions on that.
