  有问必答

Q : What do you think about the role of internships in the application? Do you have any suggestions for undergraduates while looking for internships?

A : Internship is an important factor to demonstrate your qualifications, because many master programs are designed to directly apply knowledge to the real industry rather than conduct the original research. The blind pursuit of well-known companies while ignoring the real job content is not worth the candle. You'd better inquire about the internship position and concrete work in advance, to avoid falling into an odd jobs embarrassment. For example, a daily routine administrative intern in a famous securities company is not a bonus point. What is worth mentioning is the work involved data analysis, appraisal, etc.

Q : Could I ask for some advice about applying Quantitative Finance with a finance background.

A : To apply Quantitative Finance programs, each of mathematics, finance, and computer programming knowledge is important. There is no need to perform excellently in all aspects, but any shortfall can be fatal. The students majoring Finance in the undergraduate are generally without strong background in mathematics & programming, so that we can pursue our studies in them consciously, e.g., choosing more mathematical elective courses. In recent years empirical research has been somewhat dominated, which involved three aspects mentioned above. So we could obtain a huge advantage if we had any empirical research experience.
