  有问必答

Q : Why should we choose to study abroad in your opinion?

A : I believe most of you have already decided to study overseas, while some may still be hesitating. There are two main points why you should go abroad based on my 2-year study experience. Firstly, different education modes give you a wider vision observing the world. In TED shows or online public lectures, you will always see the speakers present their points and arguments in a logic and confident way, which is different from most speakers around us. This shows the culture difference and results of different education concepts. Education in the U.S. gives more space to individual thinking. For example, once in the Marketing class, professor showed a set of data indicating that daily cost for a babysitting was growing fast recently, “What potential business idea will you come up based on this information?” then he asked. Most of people thought to make money through traditional ways such as running a domestic company, doing a part-time job of babysitting, etc. But there was a “geek” answered “maybe inventing a robotic nanny?” making almost all the class laugh. However it was a great idea and this creative answer kept ringing my bell when I saw Baymax in “Big Hero 6”. It’s not hard to tell a typical Chinese answer from an American one, because the former one will never be wrong but the latter one always gives you surprise. Secondly, you will feel real free and find the true self in that circumstance. Physically free is not a hard thing all over the world, but is mentally free also easy to obtain? I think the answer is negative. Have you ever noticed what you really want deeply inside your heart? Dare you say no to requests from parents or professors? Would you like to chase after your dream at a big cost instead of staying status quo? I took a course of GIS in the third semester and because my good performance in assignments and projects professor referred me a short internship opportunity in a local real estate company. The chief manager of that compan

Q : “Study in CMU: loving to be a geek.” is your pet phrase, would you please explain it to us?

A : Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) ranks among top 5 geekiest and pushiest schools in the U.S. This of course is not the reason I chose this school at first place, but it became the most important reason why I love this school. The motto of CMU is “my heart is in the work”, so we are trained to be a good worker with practical doing and innovative thinking. “Pull an all-nighter” is a high-frequency used phrase when we discuss assignments with our friends. Starring at the computer screen and none-stop typing on the keyboard with a cup of latte on the desk is the most common scene you can see in the library even late at night. Picture that you work till next day morning with some “like-minded” group members on a project at which all of you are enthusiastic, you propose different opinions based on individual growing background and knowledge and form a final report over countless arguments and consents. I take these memories as my priceless treasure and the marker of my school-days, because you can hardly find the same feeling at work. CMU endows me two most important personalities which keep positively in my work now. One is “always stick to it”; another is “always think it thoroughly”. I hope all of you can discover who you are and what you really like over there!
