  有问必答

Q : China is now facing serious environmental problems. The whole society pays more attention to environmental problems, and the environmental protection industry is developing energetically in China. In other words, there will be more employment opportunities in China than the United States. Under the circumstances, whether I will have some advantages when I come back upon graduating from the programme in environmental science in USA.

A : Historically, the United States began to attach great importance to the environmental problems and concentrated on controlling pollution long before our China, at least 30 years. Nowadays, our environmental management system is learned from the successful experience in the United States both in technological means and environmental policy making. There is no doubt that America leads the world in environmental science. Many domestic companies also introduced advanced technologies and management experience from the USA. Thus, for the moment, overseas returnees with world-class educational background have distinct advantages. Furthermore, as the employment opportunities in environmental industries continuously increased in China, now is a great time for undergraduates to further their studies abroad.

Q : When applying for a postgraduate programme in environmental science, what are the most important capabilities or skills our undergraduates should focus on?

A : Other than GPA, TOEFL and GRE, an undergraduate should pay more attention to accumulating more experiment experience and improving experimental capacities. Moreover, if one can conduct a research and publish academic papers under the guidance of supervisor, it will earn him/her huge bonus points. Besides, participating in more social practice related to environment science will also bring a more positive impact on his/her application, especially for some majors related with environmental decision-making and environmental ethics.
