Caramel Fei graduated from Xiamen University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Management in Accounting. While at Xiamen University, she was very involved in academic research work such as serving as a research assistant for supervisor's research projects. Caramel then pursued a Master of Accountancy degree from University of Southern California, graduating in 2012 at the top of her class. She began working for Big Four accounting firm PWC in Los Angeles area as a full-time auditor staff member.

Q : Why major in Accounting?

A : I've always been good at crunching numbers, documentation, and analyzing costs, so majoring in accounting and finance was a no-brainer. Looking back, I am so grateful I ended up choosing it, and I would not hesitate to make that choice again. In my opinion, if there's one degree that gives you the education to succeed at just about anything in the business world, it should be an accounting degree. Accounting opens doors in every kind of business coast to coast. It gives one a broad and solid foundation to understand what makes a business successful and the complexities of running a business in a local, national or global market. It can prepare you to become a partner in an accounting firm, to pursue a career in finance or corporate management, to work in government, or even to become an entrepreneur. In fact, no matter what you decide to do, having an accounting background can open doors wide.

Q : When applying for a postgraduate programme in Accounting, what are the most important capabilities or skills our undergraduates should focus on?

A : Apart from enhancing strong quantitative and analytical skills through four years of undergraduate course, an undergraduate should pay more attention to gaining more practical experience through taking some professional internships and improving his/her interpersonal communication ability by participating in extra-curricular activities, which will benefit him/her in future applications.
