Xiaoxuan Zhi obtained her B.S. degree in Economics from Zhengzhou University and is pursuing her Master degree of International Relations and International Communication in Boston University starting from fall 2016, focusing on Marketing & Political Economics track. She has also been to UCLA (University Of California, Los Angeles) for a summer program “Business, Marketing and Media”. With excellent academic performance (qualified for postgraduate recommendation), as well as various working and activity experience during undergraduate, she is good at University Planning, Leadership, Star-up Business, Marketing and Economics area.

Q : What do you think is the role of publications during the application of a postgraduate program? Could you give some advice on publications to Chinese undergraduates?

A : Publication is an essential standard to judge your academic level, because you are applying for a graduate degree, which is not the basic knowledge, but a further study of one area. Although publication is not an absolute factor (such as TOEFL and GRE, GMAT) to consider when you apply, it will be a "huge plus" if you can do it well. For undergraduates, my recommendation is to dig into your major when studying. Try your best to keep a good relationship with the professor (who is researching the field you are interested in) and seek if he/she would like to offer an opportunity to be your thesis adviser even coauthor a paper with you. Then just write it and contribute to journals!

Q : What factors should be considered while choosing an appropriate program?

A : 1) Your interest; 2) The career prospects of this major; 3) Reputation and ranking of the program and university; 4) The match between your qualification and the application competence.

Q : How can you help our students who are about to apply for a postgraduate program in International Relations and International Communication?

A : I can share with you my experience about TOEFL and GRE preparations, my application process to this major, several necessary steps or factors you should do during the application, how can you schedule your university life better and what kind of students the admission office prefers (according to my talk with the school staff ), etc. =)
