  有问必答

Q : What do you think is the most important while applying for a graduate program in Finance?

A : You should have a clear career path in your mind, which will not only help you to get through interviews of graduate programs, but also position yourself in fierce job market after graduation. You would better know whether to work in China or start career in U.S., your target industries and companies, and even the specific positions you desire for.

Q : What factors should be considered while choosing an appropriate program?

A : Your real interest, overall ranking of a program, and alumni distribution. Firstly, you would be very happy to learn something you really like. So follow your heart to choose the best suitable program. Secondly, even though it is tricky to take overall ranking of a program into consideration, it still matters if you want to work in China. Generally speaking, choose a big name university if you want to go back China while choose a strong program if you want to develop in U.S. Thirdly, alumni will play a key role in your future life. In the short run, you will have class and conduct group projects with classmates, who will exert a good influence on you if they are diligent and intelligent. In the long run, you can turn to alumni for help when you come up bottle neck in your career since you are work in same field.

Q : Since Shanghai is the international financial center of China, why do you want to further your study in Finance abroad and what are differences between teaching methods of China and the USA?

A : English-speaking environment and much case study. Since I want to start my career in consulting firms (MBB), communicating in English is quite crucial to win case interviews and survive in later working situations. Further study in U.S. can definitely practice my oral English, especially when speaking with some guys with strong accents. Besides, case study is also a shining point in U.S. study. Often, professor will hand out a real case he is dealing with, and he expects us to do a business plan in a team to solve the problem or expand the existing business, in which process, data analysis skills, project management, and communication skills will be greatly enhanced.
