  有问必答

Q : Why did you choose to further your study abroad while you had finished your undergraduate study in Zhejiang University?

A : Working for investment banking was my dream. Many IBD positions in China need a master's degree so I wanted to pursue higher education. The US has a very good educational system and more than 100 areas in U.S. markets lead the world in economic clout. For me, further study is not only researching deeper in academics, but also understanding more about future business trends. Considering my long-term career, I chose to study abroad in New York, center of the world.

Q : Could you give some advice about applying for a postgraduate program in Management?

A : First, I would say having working experience is definitely recommended in applying for a management program. Most courses of management have case studies and class discussions related to working programs and real-life scenarios. If you don't have years of working experience, internships will also help you better understand the class content. An internship will also aid in understanding why C-level people make certain decisions and how management can work well in helping different teams cooperate. If you don't have either, then you need to ask yourself whether you really would like to manage other people in the future. Managing is entirely different from being an expert in an industry. It requires a lot of communication. Do you enjoy having meetings all day instead of working on a task with detailed information? You may need to make decisions on your own. Hundreds or thousands of people will be counting on you. If you are interested in this type of responsibility, then taking a management course can help you when you get to that position in the future.

Q : What are the employment prospects of Management both in China and the USA?

A : In the US, management is widely used for all aspects in a company. For example, in dealing with entry level employees, their manager will ask them to do a good job in time management, especially in balancing of multiple tasks. In China, people usually think about dealing with management issues when they get to a management level. It's true that new people also need this skill but this is not their focus. The manager may only be interested in outstanding accomplishments. In the US, managers also see if employees are managing work efficiently and if their own management skills can be improved.
