  有问必答

Q : What do you think are the most important capabilities that our applicants should focus on when applying for a Ph.D. Program in Chemical Engineering?

A : From my perspective, the two most important capabilities for applicants applying for PhD program in ChE are strong academic background in chemical engineering and the enthusiasm in exploring scientific research. For the strong academic background, it is better that you have taken and achieved good grades in the three key courses of chemical engineering major: reaction engineering, thermodynamics and transport. As for enthusiasm in scientific research, it is better that you have some undergraduate research experience to show your interest in certain research area. Publications are not required for undergraduate students but research experience is essential.

Q : What do you learn from the experience of working as the Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant in Pennsylvania State University?

A : As a research assistant from 2013, I did learn a lot during the past three year’s research in my lab. In my group, everyone is doing independently project and this requires you to be independent and familiar with what you are doing, what other groups are doing and how to proceed further along with your project. You are the one who knows your project the best, even more than your advisor. Creativity and critical thinking are significantly important for your success on your project. As for the teaching assistant experience, I helped to hold office hours and taught some certain topics when the Professor is out for conference. It helped me communicate with the students a lot and learned how to make it easier to transfer your own expertise to others.

Q : Why do you want to be a mentor with CompassEdu?

A : The best thing about CompassEdu is to help others who are pursuing similar pathways as I was 3 years ago. I DIY all my applications and therefore I understand the difficulties out there. I hope to utilize this platform to help more applicants to get good offer from the US universities and start their graduate life.
