  有问必答

Q : When applying for a postgraduate program in biology and biological engineering, what are the most important capabilities or skills our applicants should focus on?

A : “Experience”. That is the most important thing that makes you outstanding from all applicants. Lab experience is particularly critical for applicants in biology-related majors, since they are experiment-based sciences. The admission committee members, most of whom are scientist, will expect successful applicants to understand what “biology” really means from their direct lab experience.

Q : How are the employment prospects of biology related majors in the U.S?

A : There are pros and cons to major in biology in the view of employment prospects. Because of the public enthusiasm for health issues, funding for basic biological and biomedical research is more than other fields. However, it takes pretty long training time for young biologist to start their career. Most people will receive 4-5 year post-doc training after they get their Ph.D..

Q : Would you please share with us the work experience as the Post-Doc Fellow in Johns Hopkins University?

A : Working with Dr. Gregg L. Semenza, the 2016 Lasker Award winner, my current research is focused on the role of stem cells in chemoresistance in breast cancer patients. In addition to bench work, I will also write grant application and provide training for college students in the lab.
