From deciding to study oversea to successfully being admitted and finally having obtained the Master’s degree in a well-recognized university, from searching for a first time job to landing a career that one likes and excels at and eventually settling down to enjoy a balanced life at America, each progress was facing numerous difficulties and frustrations and required great courage. Thanks to her continuous hard work, never-give-up and down to earth attitude, to date, Ms. Fang Yi have accomplished all these challenges and reaped the harvest she has dreamed since 1999, the year she started her journey.
After graduated from Peking University with the Master’s degree in Economics, in 1999, as one of the four lucky foreign students among thousands of applicants worldwide, Ms. Fang Yi was admitted with full scholarship to pursue her PHD degree in Economics program of Emory University in Atlanta. With two-year advanced mathematics and economics study, Ms. Fang Yi gradually realized that she had more interest in utilizing her outstanding analytic skills and knowledge to solve realistic problems instead of focusing on abstract economic theories. As a result, she decided to transfer her focus on financial engineering and applied Quantitative and Computational Finance Master program at Georgia Institute of Technology. Ms. Fang Yi graduated in 2002 from this program with the Master degree of Science. Her study at Peking University, Emory and George Tech enabled her to adapt quickly in new and changing business, social and culture environments. Her strong academic performances with decent GPAs and very excellent analytical skills helped her land the first job as a data analyst. During the following 14 years, as a highly qualified data analytical professional, no matter which company she has served, from Broadview Networks, New York College of Health Professions to Nielsen Company, she effectively prioritized a broad range of responsibilities to consistently meet tight deadlines. No matter which tools and domain knowledge the jobs have required to learn, she has acquired new skills quickly and demonstrate flexibility, and resourcefulness when faced with new challenges. While appreciating her fruitful life here in America, she hope she can share her full experience of both accomplishments and failures with the ones who want to challenge themselves like her and eventually help them realize their dreams like her.
